Aya Huma: The opener of the cycle.

Updated: Apr 26, 2023

Greetings, I am Aya Huma, the guardian of the VisionaryTRiBE's sacred space. Even tho I can be a trickster sometimes, I use my power to protect the people while they are doing their spiritual work.

In Lak'ech

I am another you,

I am a timeless being that comes from the Andean traditions of Ecuador. I am also known as "the Opener of the New Cycle".

My name consists of two Kichwa words - "Aya" meaning the spirit or energy of nature and "Huma" meaning head, leader, and guide. My two faces of represent the past and future, day and night, and opposites in life. The rainbow colors on my mask represent the full spectrum of Wisdom. My two ears and two noses represent the four cardinal points, and the tongues symbolize the importance of oral communication.

The whip in my hand shows my eagerness to protect the sacred space and I use it to cleanse the space from dense energies and to drive away evil spirits.

I am a mystical and popular character that remains resolute and demonstrates courage in an impish way. I lead and enliven the main ceremonies, festivals, rituals, and dances of our people, especially during the festival of Inti Raymi, where I play a vital part in the ceremonies of thanksgiving to INTI the sun god for the maize harvest.

This festival is considered the most significant ceremony among the four ceremonies of de Andean people, and it is celebrated on the winter solstice, which is the shortest day and the longest night of the year.

This ceremony is a profound celebration of the sun and earth's relationship, as Pachamama, or Mother Earth, is also honoured.

During the ceremony, traditional dances, music, and rituals are performed to honor the sun and seek its blessings for a bountiful harvest in the coming year. The Inti Raymi is a cultural celebration of the Incan heritage, a way to connect with the past and honor the ancestors.
